A Few Things at the Red Whale

Friday, September 21st, 2007

We have had a couple of hurdles in the last couple of weeks and they have been brought to our attention. I would like to thank the people who did brings these problems to our attention because if they had not we might not of had a chance to react and take care of them.

Problems that we had:

1. Coffee grinder broke and I fixed it but the grind changed and made it very course and I did not notice it until it was brought to my attention a couple of days later. The outcome of the grind being to course was the coffee tasted week and was under extracted…Yuk!! This is why we do what we and strive for the perfect cup of coffee and its a never ending pursuit.

2. Veggie wrap wet. First day we made the wraps and we found out that they get soggy fast.

Again thank you to the people who brought these items to our attention.

Toronto Coffee & Tea Show

Friday, September 21st, 2007

We went, we set-up, we worked the crowds, we gained new contacts, we got great feedback and we had fun.
The Coffee & Tea show in Toronto at the Toronto Congressional Center was a very interesting, informative and eye-opening event. We would like to thank Shannon Guidry for her help and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
We have signed the Ethiopian Licensee Agreement to further help Ethiopia protect their coffee farmers and their families.
We ate at Chef Mark McEwans restaurant North 44. That was a through treat. Thanks to the staff our server and Sheryl the Somalie for making this a truly fantastic experience.
We had tried many different coffees in different environments i.e. FiveBucks, Restaurants & smaller coffee roasters. Te best by far was on the very last day at Balzac coffee roasters, Thanks to Phil at Balzak for some real nice espresso and a great chat.
I will be posting some pictures on the blog of our booth and the show once I figure out how to post them.

Cheers,
Sean Boyd
Red Whale Coffee

P.S. One New Brunswicker that showed up at the booth to our surprise was Sean Whitney from Whitney Brothers Coffee Fredericton, Cheers Sean for the suggestion about the Distillery and the Chocolatier…….yummmmmmmmy! We are still working on him to carry our coffee ;)
